Pre and Post Natal
The risk to the fetus occurs when the mother:
- does not have access to important pre-natal nutrition and medical care
- experiences miscarriage or premature labour due to physical injury or emotional stress
- experiences strangling which can limit oxygen to the fetus
- experiences tension and trauma causing her to produce adrenalin and cortisol which can change the development of the brain of the fetus
- is sleep deprived which can make her more at risk of depression and health problems impacting the development of the fetus
Babies born under these circumstances may be of low birth weight or have:
- impaired brain development
- nervous system disorders
- developmental delays
- injuries such as broken bones, bleeding on the brain, or skull fractures
- a struggle to establish vital eating and sleeping patterns necessary for normal development
